Horn’s Waterside [Old Norse ey] The Domesday Book form (Hornessei) of Hornsea led Canon Taylor (Names and their Hist., p. 348) to the conclusion that we have here to do with the dat. sing., nesi, of Old Norse nes, a headland (jutting into the great lake); but this is very doubtful.
