From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
(English) One who kept a public place of lodging, the landlord of an inn.
The ancestor of the baronet was Jacques Hoste, who was driven out of the Netherlands in 1569, by the persecutions under the Duke of Alva, and settled in England. His ancestors were influential in the city of Bruges in the XIV. cent. Courthope's Debrett.
For Haste. Roger Haste, Normandy 1198 (Magni Rotuli Scaccarii Normanniae); Geoffry Hassot, Engl. c. 1272 (Rotuli Hundredorum). The baronet’s family, however, came from Flanders more recently.
