From Hounam in Roxburghshire. William de Hunum, son of John son of Orm, built a chapel in honor of S. Mary on his lands of Rasawe and c. 1190 gave the lands to the monks of Melrose on certain conditions (Melros, l, p. 122—123). He and his successors appear co have assumed the name of de Laundeles (see OPS., I, p. 393—395). John Hounam in Bridgend, 1642, appears again in 1662 as John Hownhame (RRM., I, p. 92; II, p. 1). Robert McNeill Hounam was married in Edinburgh 1942. Hownham 1662.
