George Hutone had a charter of the croft "vulgo vocato le ackorne waird," 1605 (RD., p. 498), and Alexander Huttoun was "deacone of the skinneris" of Stirling, 1614 (SBR., p. 137). Thomas Huttoun was retoured heir in lands in the parish of Kellis, 1621 (Retours, Kirkcudbright, 150), Patrick Huttoune was burgess of Dundee, 1649 (inquis., 3516), and Christian Huittoun was retoured heir of Hendrie Huitoune, portioner of Newbiggings, her brother, 1654 (Retours, Fife, 833). Hutoun 1641, Hutoun 1529, Huttyne 1562. A common surname in Dunblane Commissariot Record. The Huttons of Cumberland were an old family, 'de Hoton'.
