From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

From Innerwick in East Lothian. A family of this name, vassals of the Stewarts, obtained their lands from their superiors in the latter part of the twelfth century. Roland de Inuerwic witnessed a charter of two parts of land in the territory of Inuerwyc by Robert de Kent to Kelso c. 1190 (Kelso, 255). William de Innerwic witnessed a grant of the church of Cragyn (Craigie in Ayrshire) to the monks of Paisley by Thomas de Cragyn in 1272 (RMP., p. 233). Robert Inderwick or Innerwick in Chirnsyde in 1652 and six more of the name are recorded in the Lauder Commissariot Record. James Inderwick and John Innerweik were indwellers in Chirnside, 1656 and 1666 (Craw, p. 16, 17).
