All these variants came from one source. A certain man from the island of Bohol came to Hinunangan, Southern Leyte to escape a situation at home. It was said that his true surname was Del Rosario, but he chose to live an anonymously. He soon established himself to be very brave and strong, not backing down from any confrontation, physical or otherwise; and his neighbors grew scared of his ferocity that grew with each passing day. When the people came to ask his neighbors who he was, all they answered he was hadlok or hadlokon because of his fierce reputation. The name stuck, and was eventually used by him, and all of his descendants as their surname.
