JAFFRAYSON: "Son of Jaffhay ," which see. An old Aberdeen surname. Richard le fiz Geffrai de Ekford, Roxburghshire, rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 203), and Jon Joffrayson of Turyne was one of the surveyors of the marches of Woodwrae, 1388 (Bamff, p. 22). James Jaffraysoun appears as a forestaller in Aberdeen in 1402 (CRA., p. 383), and James Jaffrason, John Joffraison, and James Jofrasone were admitted burgesses of Aberdeen in 1409, 1445, and 1488 (NSCM., I, II 4, 10, 33). John Jaffraison is mentioned in connection with burgh affairs in Aberdeen in 1448 (CRA., p. 17). Alexander Galfridi in Brechin, 1435, and John Galfridi there 1450 (REB., I, 79,159). Alexander Joffrasoun was a witness in Brechin in 1476 (REB., I, p. 199), and another Alexander Jofirason was burgess of Stirling in 1481 (Cambus., 211). Robert Jofrasone had a lease of part of the vill of Grangie de Connane, 1501 (RAA., II, p. 338). Jofrasoun 1512, Joffrayson 1408.
