The Junuzi surname originates in Presheva, a locality in Southern Serbia mainly inhabited by ethnic Albanians. The surname can be traced back to XIX century, when some members of Albanian tribe Berisha migrated to Presheva and changed their surname to Junuzi based on the name of the oldest man of the tribe. The main reason for such a change was the need to differentiate that part of the tribe which migrated to Presheva from the rest but also served as a measure to escape from the blood feuds that were common in the XIX century.
