Kailzie: From the old lands afterwards the parish of Kailzie (now suppressed) in Peeblesshire. Patrick de Hopekeliou was one of the witnesses to the perambulation of the marches of Stobo, c. 1190 (REG., 104; APS., I, p. 88). Robert de Hopkelchoc is mentioned in 1259 as present at an inquest held at Peebles regarding the land of Hopkelchoc (APS., I, p. 99 red), and Archibald de Hopkelioc and Clemens de Hopkelioc appear in 1262 on an inquest regarding the moss of Waltamshope (ibid., I, p. 101 red; Peebles, 5). Erchebald of Hopekelioch witnessed a deed by Malcolm, son of David Dunne of Conestablestoune, between 1260 and 1268 (REG., p. 176). William de Hopkelioghe of Peeblesshire rendered homage in 1296. His seal bears a lion passant to sinister, S' Willelmi de Hopcailhov (Bain, II, p. 205,533). Wilham of Hoppekelyok served on an inquest at Peebles regarding the lands of the late William Malevile (ibid., II, 1436), and in 1305 it is recorded that the land of William de Opkeliok in the county of Poebles 'cannot be laboured for William's poverty' (ibid., IV, p. 373.).
