An old surname in Orkney derived from the place named Keldall in Holm. Andro Keldall or Caldell was juror on an assize in 1565 and in 1605 (REO., p. 120,179). Dauid Keldell, burgess of Kirkwall in 1597 (ibid., p. 321), may be the David Keldall who had wadset of land in Clouston, Orkney, in 1616 to which his brother Andro Keldall was witness (OSRec., I, p. 240,241). Walter Keldall of that Ilk appears in record in 1617 (REO., p. 398), and Elspeth Kelday died in 1687 (Orkney).
