The Kelways or Kellaways were an ancient family of Chilfrome, where they lived during the first half of the 16th century, and at the same time one of the name owned land in Long Bridy and Allington (H.). In the latter part of the 15th century, William Kelway, gent., held land in Sherborne parish, and "seems to have been ancestor to a family after seated at Lillington" (H.). Through last century there was a well - to - do family at Piddle Hinton bearing this name (H.).
