KERMUCK: Generally supposed to be a form of Cormack, but really of local origin, from Kermuck near Ellon. Willilmus dictus Kermaghe held lands in Aberdeenshire, 1382 (RMS., I, 682), and in 1552 we have mention of William Kempt "de Carmuick vel Carmuk" (Retours, Aberdeen, 12).

From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

KERMUCK: Generally supposed to be a form of Cormack, but really of local origin, from Kermuck near Ellon. Willilmus dictus Kermaghe held lands in Aberdeenshire, 1382 (RMS., I, 682), and in 1552 we have mention of William Kempt "de Carmuick vel Carmuk" (Retours, Aberdeen, 12). In 1562 the name is spelled Cormuk (Mair, p. 37), and a family of Kennedys held the lands of Kermuck in Aberdeenshire for several generations. The name of James Kermay who leased Campsie in Angus in 1448 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 127), may be a softened form of the name. compare Kermath, a current Fife surname. In 1655 there is mention of the Hill-faulds of Carmuck (Retours, Aberdeen, 331), and an Andrew Kermuck was a white-fisher in Montrose in 1685 (Brechin).
