From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Kerdeston,' a parish in Norfolk, near Reepham. There is no escape, so far as I can see, from this conclusion. The histories of Norfolk teem with these entries. If the reader will repeat Kerdeston six times over to himself he will see how easily the corruption would arise.

Robert Karrison, of Milton Green, Cheshire, 1620: Wills at Chester.

Hugh Kerrison, of Dodleston, 1640: ibid.

1802. Married — James Kerrison and Elizabeth Pearce: St. George, Hanover Square.

From K. in Norfolk, the estate of Geoffry Baynard or De Beaumont, t. William I. (See Beaumont.) He granted his tithes at Kerdeston to Castle-Acre Priory (Mon. i. 646). Roger de Kerdeston (son of Geoffry), and William, his son, frequently occur in the records. From them lineally descended (the evidences being full throughout) William, son of Sir Roger de Kerdeston, who m. Margaret, sister and heir of Gilbert de Gand, Baron of Folkingham, and 1281 had a writ of military summons (Parliamentary Writs). Roger de K. was summoned to Parliament by writ 1331, from whom descended the Lords Kerdeston. Various branches continued in Norfolk, whose names gradually became changed to Kerrison. Hence the Baronets Kerrison.
