David Kerse was made burgess of Linlithqw in 1472 (Sc. Ant., XVII, p. 120), Of local origin from Kerse near Grangemouth. Agnes Kerse in Chamerstoun, 1664 (Dunblane)

In 1513 James IV granted a charter to Alexander Kers of the lands of Ballincrieff, East Lothian. Rab Kerse o' the Trows, a famous fisherman of the time of Scott, is called "that prince of water men" by the late Sir Herbert Maxwell.
