KILMARON: From the lands of Kilmaron in the parish of Cupar, Fife. Several individuals of this name appear as witnesses in charters by Malcolm, earl of Fife, c. 1204—28 (SHSM., IV, p. 311). Thomas de Kilmaron witnessed a charter by Earl Malcolm of the church of Abercrumbin to Dunfermline Abbey (RD., p. 83), and as dominus Thomas de Kilmaron was a witness, c. 1239, to a charter to the Hospital of Soltre (Soltre, p. 13). About 1220 he witnessed a grant by Thomas de Lundin to the nuns of North Berwick (CMN., 11), and, as Thomas de Kilmeron, witnessed the charter by Malcolm, earl of Fife, a. 1228 (ibid., 9). He is probably the Thomas de Kimmalron who witnessed a charter by Fergus, earl of Buchan before 1214 (CAB., p. 408). A later Thomas de Kylmeron in 1293 granted a tack of the lands of Torer in Fife in favor of Alexander called Schyrmeschur, son of Colin son of Carun (SHR., XVII, p. 157). Sir Peter de Kilmaron, knight, witnessed a charter by David de Strathbolgy, earl of Atholl, c. 1284 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 349). William of Kilmaron who held the land of Levingston and the land of Hirdmanston before they were granted to Archibald of Douglas by Malcolm, earl of Fife, in the beginning of the thirteenth century, may be the William of Kilmaron who witnessed a chafer by Malcolm, earl of Fife to Alexander of Blar, c. 1250 (Rothes, p. 503).
