The pers. name does not appear to be for the Anglo-Saxon Cynebeald; and it may poss. represent the Old Cymric Cynbel-cyn, a chief + bel, war-esp. as there are well-known traditions at Kimble of ‘the British king Cymbeline (Cunobelin-us), who is sup­posed to have had a fortified palace here’]
