KINBUCK: From the lands of Kinbuck, a few miles north from Dunblane. Ricardus miles de Kenbuc witnessed a confirmation charter by Tristram to Inchaffray, c. 1208 (Inchaffray, p. 25), and he also appears in other in chaff ray charters between 1211 and 1234 (ibid., p. 25, 47, 48). In a charter by Robert, earl of Stratheryn the earl calls him "Dominus R. filius Lugan miles meus" (ibid., p. 50). He was brother of the Countess Ysenda, Earl Gilbert's second wife (ibid., p. 40). "The proof of the identity of 'Ricardus de Kenbuc' with 'R. filius Lugan is found in a charter granted to the Abbey of Cambuskenneth by Malcolm de Dromond, lord of Mar, in 1395, ratifying gifts of parts of the lands of Cambushinnie, made to the Abbey by his predecessors, 'Richard son of Luguen' and 'Joachim de Kynbute'" (Inchaffray, p. 273). Joachim de Kenbuc (Kynbuc or Kinbucche) was one of the witnesses to a grant of the church of S. Mordac of Kellemurthe (i.e. Kilmorich in Argyllshire) to Inchaffray, c. 1246, and also appears in other charters in the same record between 1247—66 (ibid., p. 64—65, 68, 77, 85). Sir Joachim was the first of the family of Kinbuck of that Ilk, who held the lands of Kinbuck for several generations (LAC., p. 243). Alan de Kynbuk or Kynbuc witnessed the settlement of a dispute regarding the patronage of the vicarage of Strugeth in 1287 (Inchaffray, p. 111), and is a witness in other charters between 1285 and 1290 (HMC., 2. Rep., App., p. 166; Athole, p. 705). Maucolum de Kynbuk of the county of Perth rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 200), Nicholas de Kynbuk appears as archdeacon of Dunblane in 1358 LIM., p. 31), and William of Kinbuk was one of the inquest on the lands of Aldy in 1432 (Athole, p. 707). The seal of Archibald de Kenbucke is appended to a charter of the lands of Clasmigall in Strathern in 1455 (Seats. Supp., 556; Macdonald, 1498), and in 1471 Malcolm of Kynbuk resigned the lands of Glassingal into the king's hands (SBR., p. 255).
