KINCRAIGIE: Of local origin from a place of the name. There are places named Kincraigie in Fife, Perthshire and Aberdeenshire. Sir James Kincragi was dean of Aberdeen, 1520 (Macdonald, 1504), and Magister John Kyncragy is recorded there in 1537 (REA., II, p. 12). Sir Andrew Kincragy was vicar of Parton, Kirkcudbright, 1541 (Anderson). Nisbet says "of that Ilk," but does not say where. Kincrage 1502 (CDE., 58), Kyncraigye and Kyncragye 1549.
