Of territorial origin from the lands of Kincaid in the parish of Campsie, Stirlingshire. Robert de Kyncade de eodem appears as witness in 1450 (LSC,, 125) and 1451 (REG,, 365), Patrick de Kynkad and George de Kynkad witnessed charters of lands in St. Leonard's, Edinburgh, in 1457 (Neubotle, 284), and David de Kyncade was bailie of Edinburgh in 1467 and again in 1493 (ibid., 299). Thomas Kyncayd de eodem. witnessed foundation charters of the Collegiate Church of Biggar in 1545 (SCM., V, p. 308), and appears again in 1550 as Thomas Kyncaide of that Ilk (Protocols, I). James Kincaid, notary at Kilchoan, and his servitor Alexander Kincaid, appear in 1609 (Poltalloch Writs, p. 76). Kinkaid 1547, Kyncaid 1510, Kynked 1493.
