From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

From the lands or barony of Kinloch at the head of Rossie Loch, parish of Collessie, Fife. Murinus de Kindelouc or Kindelouch and Maurice de Kindelouch witnessed grants by Roger de Quincy and by Henry de Winton, c. 1202—52 (RPSA., p. 256,257, 272). Galfridus de Keldelach was a charter witness, c. 1237 (LAC., 78) and John de Kyndelouch and his heirs had a confirmation of the privilege of a mill-pool in Fife, c. 1250 (SHR., II, p. 173). William de Kyndelloche of Fifeshire rendered homage in 1296. His seal bears a rabbit below foliage, S' Will'i de Kinlhoi, and in the same year as William de Kindelow he was one of an inquest on the lands of Disarde (Dysart) (Bain, II, p. 204,216, 545). Johannes de Kyndelouch, miles, attested a confirmation charter by David II to Ysabella de Fyf in 1365 (RMS., I, 221), Sir John Kyndeloch was chaplain to friar Andrew Meldrum, brother of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in Scotland, 1438 (Bain IV, 1117). The Kinlochs have had a long and honorable connection with Dundee, and George Kinloch was elected the first M. P. for Dundee in the Reformed Parliament of 1832.
