KINPONT: Of local origin from Kilpunt near Broxburn, West Lothian. John de Kilpuc king's tenant in Linlithgowshire, rendered homage, 1296. His seal bears a stag's head cabossed between a star and crescent, a human head between the antlers, S' Iohis de Kenpvnt cl'ici. In the same year a writ was directed to the sheriff of Linlithgow on behalf of John de Kynpunte (Bain, II, p. 201,218, 533). John Kynpont, monk of Culross, middle of the sixteenth century (PSAS., LX, p. 93).
