From the lands, afterwards parish of Kinross in Kinross-shire. Gillebertus d Kinros attests a St. Andrews charter. c. 1170 (RPSA., p. 216). Henry de Kyrnos witnessed grants to the Abbey of Arnbroath, c. 1204—11 (RAA., I, 33) and to the Abbey of Cambuskenneth, c. 1214 (Cambus., 18). He also witnessed a confirmation charter by William the Lion, c. 1201 (Inchttffray, p. 18), and is doubtless the Henricus de Kinros who attests other charters about the same period (RAA., I, 64). Johannes de Kinros granted a charter to Alexander de Oggoluin (Ogilvie) of lands of Belaucht before 1232 (SHSM., IV, p. 314). John de Kynros who witnessed a quitclaim of the land of Drumkarauch, 1260 (RPSA., p. 364), is probably John de Kynros who was sheriff of Kinros in 1266 (ER., I, p. 34). Gilbert de Kynros had the lands of Cuthylgrudyn given him for life, 1263 (ER., I, p. 34), and Thomas de Kynros was empowered in 1275 to appoint and remove attorneys at pleasure (Bain, II, 48). Master Aco de Kynross rendered homage, 1291 (RR.). Gilbert de Kynros was elected a lineator in Aberdeen, 1398 (CRA., p. 374), Robert Kynros was heir of James Kynros, procurator and burgess of Edinburgh, 1597 (Inquis., 6), and a plaid and sword were stolen from William Kynross in Menteath by Macgregors in 1635.
