User-submitted Reference

Kantoor is an ancient village town near Badosari in Tahsil Sirauli Ghauspur, district Barabanki of Uttar Pradesh.

The ancestors of Kantoori family were descendants of Imam Hazrat Moosa Al Kazim. His direct lineal descendant Saiyid Ashraf Abu Talib, the son of Imamzada Mir Mahrooq (whose Mausoleum still exists in Nishapur) left Nishapur in Iran during the invasion of Iran by Mongol ruler Hulagu Khan.

Travelling via Afghanistan , Pakistan he reached Delhi India during reign of King Muhammad Tughlaq. He was granted a huge estate as blood money by King Tughlaq.

His grandson Saiyid-us-Sadat Alauddin known as Alauddin Ala buzurg settled in Kantoor .

The descendants of Alauddin Ala buzurg used to write Nishapuri with reference to their old home in Iran, and Kantoori with reference to their final home in India.

The family became very famous due to their contribution in various fields especially in intellectual and spiritual spheres namely in literature, history, theology, jurisprudence, medicine, chemistry, natural sciences etc.

Mir Ali Khan, Mufti Muhammad Quli Sadr-us-sudur, Allama Hamid Husain, Allama Siraj Husain, Allama Eijaz Husain, Allama Ghulam Husain, Saiyid Khurshaid Hasan Rais-Kantoor, Saiyid Izhar Husain, Justice Karamat Husain, Justice Shaukat Husain, Allama Hasan Abbas, Naseerul-millat, Nasirul-millat, Saiyid Mohammad Ilyas Bar at law, Haji Waris Ali Shaw are few of the long list of eminent personalities which the Kantoori family has produced.

Most of the family members left India during the partition of India and settled abroad. Very few surviving family members of Kantoori family are now left in India.

The surname Kantoori is now being used by all inhabitants of the area which makes it rather difficult for an outsider to know who the real descendants of Kantoori family are, however their family records were well maintained both by the family and authorities due to their eminent position which includes Mughal Kings, British Government, published biographies, records maintained in the Islamic world and sufis, that the real descendant can be established.
