John Kirkwood possessed a tenement in Stirling in 1476 (SBR., p. 260), Alexander Kirkwod, a follower of the earl of Cassilis, was respited for murder in 1526 (RSS., I, 3386), and John Kirkwood was a voter in parish of Qwilton (Coylton), 1513 (Ros, 52). James Pugh Kirkwood (1807—1877), hydraulic engineer, builder of one of the largest waterworks in the U. S., was born in Edinburgh. Kirkuod 1574, Kirkvod 1577.
