"The son of Kit," a diminutive or pet form of Christian and Christopher. Payment was made in 1359 to John Ketyson by the bailies of Stirling (ER., I, p. 622), and in the following year he appears as John filius Cristiani, gate-keeper (janitor) of the Castle of Stirling. In 1361 he reappears as Johannus Kytysona and in the following year as Joh. Kytysoun and again in 1365 as Joh. Ketyson (ER., II, p. 28, 61,206). The name has been probably confused in some instances with Kidston, a name of territorial origin.
