The Kizziah surname is Native American. It comes from the Tuscarora Indians and is the name of one of the Tuscarora clans. This name is believed to have come from an early Tuscaroran Chief named Kizziah, (which means 'black rabbit'). A document still survives from the early 1600s in which Chief Kizziah signed his name trading his lands to the United States Government. It is said he then moved the majority of his people to a reservation in New York State. The rest of his clan chose to move to the reservation in Cherokee, North Carolina.
