His real name was Sebastien Lac Haut, native from Neuchatel (Switzerland). The origin of that surname comes from the lake of Neuchatel which had, on that period, before digging the canal to evacuate the excess (overflow) of water, two periods, one called the "low lake" at the end of summer and autumn, and the other one, the "high lake" (lac haut en french) at the end of winter and spring with 8 meters of variation of the nivel of the water. The french administration transformed that surname Lac Haut en Lachaut.
