From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
LAMINGTON: From the manor of the same name in the parish of Lamington, Lanarkshire. Lambin Asa, from whom the manor derives its name, flourished in the reigns of David I and Malcolm IV. Between 1147 and 1160 he received a grant of the lands of Draffane and Dardarach in Lesmahagow from Arnold, abbot of Kelso (Kelso, 102), and at about the same period James, the son of Lambin, obtained the lands of Loudin and others in Ayrshire (OPS., I, p. 173)."The descent of the manor from Lambin, its first lord known to record, cannot be traced with any precision" (ibid., p. 174), as there seems to be a break in the possession of the property in the latter half of the thirteenth century. William de Lamygton rendered homage in 1296, in the same year William de Lambyngestone was committed prisoner to the castla of Hardelaghe, and William, son of William de Lambingestone, was committed to Fotheringay Castle (Bain, II, p. 169,177). Their possessions were doubtless forfeited, as in 1329 the lands of Lamington were in possession of Alexander de Seton, and since 1367 have been in possession of the family of Bailie of Lamjngton (RMS., l, App. I, 126). John Lambyngtoun or Lambynton is in record in Aberdeen in 1400 and 1408 (SCM., V, p. 15; CWA., p. 314), Thomas Lambynton was admitted burgess of the burgh in 1406, John and Duncan Lammyton in 1467, and Andrew Lamytoun in 1579 (NSCM., I, p. 2, 20, 74). John of Lammynton and Andro Lammynton were fined for absence "fra ye offerand on Candilmesday" in Aberdeen, 1483 (Mill, Plays, p. 117), and William Lammyntone held a croft in Aberdeen, 1492 (REA., I, p. 329). Lammyngtone 1505, Lammyntoune 1477, Lamyntone 1490.
Belonging to Lamington (Lanarksh.), A.D. 1206 Lambinistun = Lambin’s Estate [v. Lambin; and + Middle English tun, Old English tún, estate, &c.]
