An Orcadian surname of local origin from Langskaill in the parish of St. Andrews. Andro Langskaill in Lanksckell was one of the jurors on an assize at Tankerness in St. Andrews parish in 1559, and Johne Langskaill was one of the "jugis arbitratouris" in a dispute in 1571 (REO., p. 111,130). David Langskaill or Laneskaill is in record in Kirkwall in 1640 (MCM., II, p. 211). George Langskail was witness in an Orkney witch trial in 1708 (Low, Tour through Orkney and Shetland, p. 202).
