Old Engish, and modern Scotch, a lark. A natural sobriquet, imposed upon a person either for vocal powers or for a habit of early rising. The birds borne in the arms of this family are doubtless larks, though blazoned as martlets. The name may however be the same as the preceding.
A Scotch word for a lark; also Dutch and Saxon.
