Generally explained as a nickname from the lark, but perhaps more likely a corruption of the OE personal name Leofric. Alexander Laverock had a charter from Robert m of a tenement in Perth (RMS., I, App. II, 1781). John Laverok who petitioned for a benefice in gift of abbot of Dunfermline, 1403 (Pap. Pet,, I, p. 627), may be John Lauerok who was rector of the parish church of Cambuslang in 1427 (HMC., 12. Rep., App. 8, p. 122). Laurence Lauerok was a presbyter of Scone in 1471 (Scon, p. 195), and Henry Lawerok witnessed a charter to William Peblis in Scone in 1491 (ibid., p. 201). Thomas Laverok obtained a respite for slaughter committed by him in 1515 (RSS., I, 2650), James Laverok was burgess of Linlithqw in 1529, and Elizabeth Laverok in the same town had sasine in her favor in 1536 (Johnsoun), William Laverok was commissioner from the earl of Weyms, 1638, and David Laverock was elder in Auchterdirran, 1640 (PBK., p. 126,173). Agnes Laverock is recorded in the parish of Torphichen, 1713, and Jean Leveruck in the parish of Bathgate, 1674 (Torphichen.) Laverack or Laverick was common in Yorkshire in the eighteenth century and found in Notts in reign of Edward I (Guppy, p. 415). See also Leverick.
