LEADHOUSE: Local. Simon of Ledehouse assisted Sir James of Douglas in his capture of Roxburgh Castle, 1313 (Barbour, Brus). Adam de Ledhuss who held a land "in vico de Futy ," Aberdeen, in 1363 (REA., II, p. 283), is probably Adam de Ledhovs, burgess of Aberdeen, 1391 (RAA., II, p. 40). William Leedhous of Scotland was unjustly imprisoned in Oxford in violation of the truce of 1392 (Bain, IV, 448). Sir John Ledhous, chaplain at Cragy, 1499 (Simon, 2). Jhone of Lei dhows or Lydhowsse was tenant in Ranstrudyr, 1525—30 (Rental), James Leidhous and William Leidhous were tenants on lands of Kelso Abbey, 1567 (Kelso, p. 523,528). Thomas Leadhouse, tenant in Drygrange, 1682 (RRM., III, p. 35), and Agnes Leadhouse in Carchesters, 1690 (Peebles CR.). LEAL. Andrew Leal, treasurer of the church of Aberdeen, 1479 (REG., p. 440). William Leal, shoemaker in Forres, 1765 (Moray). Kenneth Leal, for robbing the mail, was executed and hung in chains between Elgin and Fochabers, 1773 (Thomson, Public records of Scotland, p. 131).
