LEISING: A common personal name in the northern counties of England in mediaeval times. From Old West Scandinavian Loysingi (foystngr, 'a freedman'). Laysinge, Cumbrensis judex, was one of the witnesses to Earl David's Inquisitio of Glasgow, c. 1124 (REG., p. 7). Leising attested King David's great charter to Holyrood, c. 1128 (LSC., p. 6). Alexander filius Leysing is mentioned in the first half of the thirteenth century (Dryburgh, 46). One of this name may have given origin to Leisington, mentioned in 1283 (Oliphants, p. 3).
