Lekhak caste is originally Pandey and originally they are from Simalta village, Champawat, Uttarakhand, India. Pandey are the great pandits, acharyas at their time. They were working in Chanda dynasty of Uttarakhand in respected posts like pandit, jyotis, etc. In 1625 king of Pithoragarh Trimal chan had nominated as lekhak (writer) to Pandid Jayaraj Pandeya and gave him the post Diwan. After that Padeys started to write their surname as Lekhak. Now most of the Lekhaks are residing in western part of Nepal and some families among them settled in Pithoragarh, India.
