Of territorial origin from Leuchars in the parish of the same name in Fife, the old spelling of which was Locres (1300). Patrick de Locrys (Lochrys, Lochris, or Lenchars) was appointed bishop of Brechin in 1351 (Dowden, p. 182), and Schir Thomas of Luchers was parson of Kynnettyllis in 1388 (Bamff, p. 22). John de Lucris was elected bailie of Aberdeen in 1398 (CRA., p. 374), a later John de Iluchris was a charter witness in Dundee in 1430, as likewise was Richard de Lluchris in 1434 (HP., II, p. 164,175). Thomas de Luthris, prebendary of Guthry in 1435, appears later as de Lochrys, de Lathress, and de Luchris (REB, I, 20, 75,130; II, 77). Helen Leuchars in Hiltoun of Watterstoun is in record in 1597 (Brechin), and Katerine Lewchars died in 1749 (Jervise, II, p. 115). In Edinburgh, 1942.
