From the barony of Levington in Cumberland. Robert de Levingtona witnessed resignation of land in Weremundebi and Anant between 1194—1214 (Bain, I, 606), and Sir Richard de Levington witnessed resignation of additional land in Anan to Robert Bros, c. 1218 (Annandale, I, p. 4). John of Leuynton or Lewyntoun was alderman and provost of Edinburgh, 1423 and 1428 (LSC, 113; RMS, II, 116), and was witness there, c. 1426 (Egidii, p. 49). Thomas de Levington, erstwhile abbot of Dundrennan, was provided to the rectory of Kirkinner, 1449 (Pap. Lett., X, p. 196). John Lewinton, Scottish merchant, had a safe conduct to travel in England, 1484 (Bain, IV, 1503).
