Alured de Lincoln came from Normandy with the Conqueror. He witnessed a charter in Normandy 1080 (Gall. Christ. xi. 23), and 1086 held a great barony in Lincoln and Bedford. In 1130 Robert de L. occurs (Rot. Pip.), and 1165 Alured de L. held a barony of thirty fees. There were various collateral branches, from one of which probably descended Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States.
