From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Luffincott,' a parish in Devon, seven miles from Holsworthy. The surname is now very rare in England, but it has ramified in the most extraordinary fashion in the United States. I see no reason to doubt Mr. Lower's derivation. Everything points to a Devonshire habitat.
