Lipsky Surname Meaning

From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

(Russian, Polish) One who came from Lipsk, in Poland; dweller near a linden tree.

Dictionary of American Family Names (1956) by Elsdon Coles Smith

(from a place name) The word lipa is Slavic for “linden tree” and is the source of many place names. The most famous of these is the city of Leipzig, in Germany, which was originally called Lipsk because of its many linden trees. Leipzig, or Lipsk, was famous because of the great fairs that were annually held there and which were attended by Jewish merchants. Lipsky means “one who traveled to Lipsk or Leipzig.”
