(English) belonging to Liversedge (Yorks), the Domesday Livre- sec(h, later Leversege, Liversege.

[The available forms do not help much towards an exact fixation of the etymology: the name can hardly be a combination of the two water-plant names liver or lever (v. under Livermere) and sedge— Old English secg; and the forms are against the assumption (as to the second element) of a derivation from Old English síc, a water-course. If the second element is edge—O.E. ecg—the first may be the Anglo-Saxon pers. name Léofhere. As to the physiography of Liversedge, the township is situated ‘on the declivities of a valley watered by a stream’ (National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland]
