Baring-Gould says, p. 237, from the Lisiere or verge of the Forest of Lyons, de Lisoriis in Latin. Hugh de Lysures witnessed a charter by William de Vyerpont to the Abbey of Kelso, c. 1160 (Kelso, 319). David de Lysurs, dominus de Gourton, granted a petarie to Neubotle during the incumbency of Abbot Constantine, 1233—36 (Neubotle, 27). Sir William de Lisures witnessed a charter of the lands of Athmor, 1245 (RPSA., p. 44), and in 1253 a gift of the land of Cragmilor (Craigmillar) to the monks of Dunfermline (RD., p. 114), and c. 1260—65 an Elphinstone charter (Elphinstone, I, 2). Henry de Lysours and Pyeres de Lysours of Edinburghshire rendered homage, 1296 (Bain, II, p. 201). The seal of the former bears a scallop shell and S' Henrici . ., and that of Pyeres an eight-rayed figure and S' Petri Lesuris (ibid., p. 546,551) William Lysurs who witnessed the sale of a tenement in Gouyrton, 1317 (Neubotle, p. 306) may be Sir William de Lysur "tunc constabularius castrum Puellarum," 1328 (LSC., 87). John Lysours, a native of Scotland, had letters of denization in England, 1469 (Bain, IV, 1384). William Home Lizars, a distinguished Edinburgh engraver, middle of nineteenth century. Lesouris 1553, Lysuris 1328.
