Of territorial origin from one or more of the many Logie place names. Master John de Logy, canon of Dunkeld, appears in 1271 (LIM., 22). William de Logyn and Malise de Logins were Scots prisoners of war taken at Dunbar, 1296 (Bain, II, p. 177,178, 244). Wauter de Logy of Fife rendered homage, 1296 (ibid., p. 204), and John of Logy, a Scot, was illegally arrested at Lowestoft, 1405 (ibid., IV, 690). The earliest notice of the family of Logy of Logy is in 1320, when Sir John of Logy is mentioned as one of the conspirators against Robert the Bruce (Hailes, II, p. 119). Philipp de Logy was charter witness in Dundee, 1321 (HP., II, p. 225), and in 1328—9 there is record of payments to Philip de Logy, burgess of Dundee (ER., I. p. 116,159). Duncan of Logy was arrested in Norwich in violation of the truce, 1396 (Bain, IV, 483). John Logge complained against being illegally imprisoned in Orkney, 1424 (REO., p. 39). Alexander Logy was admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1457 (NSCM., I, p. 16). Robert Loggie, squarewright in Newmiln of Strathisla, 1765 (Moray). Loggy 1667.
