The 'Longkho' surname pronounced as 'long' as in 'long road' in English and 'kho' as it is, is a clan name under phong(tangsa) tribe, phong(nocte) tribe and Tutsa tribe of the larger 'tang-Shang naga' tribes inhabiting primarily in changlang and tirap districts of arunachal pradesh as well as the tinsukia district of assam, India.
They belong from one of the earliest inhabitants of Northern naga tribes of patkai hills which stretches from northwestern Myanmar to plains of brahmaputra Valley in assam.
The Longkho clan can trace their roots from mother village 'Tutnyu' to phungsa village and then to the deomali circle villages in tirap to namtok circle in changlang District and later migration towards bordumsa subdivision of changlang District and earlier migration to plains of ledo-borgolai-margherita in tinsukia district of upper assam.
They trace their clan's origin from semi-mythical legendary folk tale hero, 'dongpong' who plays a vital part on the tutsa related dialect groups in the Tutsa, tangsa and nocte tribe.
And one of their recent ancestors is fondly remembered as 'jongtip' whose stories and chronicles also have been passed down orally through generations.
Jongtip was known as 'Hangwa' which means brave and smart warrior in the local dialect.
