It is equally evident that both Longsdon and Logsdon are not variants of Longden, which would give a senseless signification to the name. We may safely presume that Longstone became Longsdon, and then Logsdon. It is pleasant to have a view of this kind corroborated after making the statement. Since writing the above I find Longsdon to be a familiar Derbyshire surname, and not unknown in the immediate neighbourhood of Longstone.
