From Lour, which formed part of the parish of Meathielour united with Inverarity c. 1612, James of Lour witnessed a deed of 1250 and as Jacobus de Lur was a juror in 1257 (RAA., I, p. 90). Laurentius de Lure, juror on inquest in Angus, 1321 (RMS., I, App. I, 29). William Lowar was burgess of Arbroath in 1458 (RAA., II, 115). Jervise says a family of Lur or Lour of that Ilk were councillors of the earls of Crawford in the fifteenth century; and John de Lowre of that Ilk is mentioned in 1466 (Lives, I, p. 117). Adam filius Habha de Lur appears as a charter witness, II. d. (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 344), and John Lovre appears in St. Andrews, 1528 (Laing, 370).
