This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Leacroft,' a township in the parish of Cannock, Staffordshire The suffix -croft is frequently found as -craft; v. Craft A novel published several years ago by Messrs. Besant and Rice, entitled The Case of Mr. Lucraft, has helped to give prominence to this surname. There can be little doubt that all the above forms are variants of Leycraft or Leacroft. Of course smaller spots than Leacroft in Staffordshire may have originated the surname, as the term leacroft would be a common place-word; v. Lea and Croft.
