(English) belonging to Luxmoor or Loosemoor. Loosemore occurs as a Devonshire surname in the 17th cent., whence we may infer the first element to be the West. English loose or looze, 1 a ‘pig-sty’ [Old English hlós, an enclosure for domestic animals]—But if Loosemore has no connexion with Luxmore the first element must be the same as in Luxford, q.v.
