From the old barony of Liston, now included in the parish of Kirkliston. Roger de Liston witnessed a charter by Richard, bishop of St. Andrews, 1163—85 (RPSA., p. 179), and again, before 1173, he witnessed the gift of the church of Hadintona by the same bishop (ibid., p. 135). About 1260 Robert de Liston was chaplain of William, bishop of St. Andrews (ibid., p. 158), and Symone de Listone of Linlithgowshire rendered homage, 1296 (Bain, II, p. 205). Thomas de Lystoune witnessed grant to the Blackfriars' Monastery, Perth, 1334 (Milne, p. 27), John Listone was professor of theology in S. Salvator College, St. Andrews, 1501 (RAA., II, 420), and David Liston was a monk of Neubotle, 1482 (Neubotle, p. 276).
