MACANECOL: Anechol "theinus de Dunine" witnessed the great charter of Earl Gilbert to the Abbey of Inchaffray, c. 1200 (Inchaffray, p. 8), and is also witness to other charters relating to the abbey of about the same date (ibid., p. 3, 12, 14). Dovenaldus filius Macynel who had a charter of land in Gleanfreone, "que dicitur Kealbride," c. 1250, is doubtless Donald filius Anecol, seneschallus of Malcolm, 4th earl of Levenax, who appears as charter witness, c. 1285 (Levenax, p. 91, 87), and the Dovenaldus MacAnecol who is included in an inhibition by the bishop of Glasgow against the earl of Lennox, 1294 (RMP., p. 203). As Donald le fiz Ancol of the county of Dunbretan he rendered homage, 1296. His seal bears a hunting horn stringed, rabbit above: S' Dovenodi Macancol' (Bain, II, p. 203,544). See also Anecol.
