MACCARLICH: Gaelic MacThearlaich, 'son of Charles.' Alexander Terleti was rector of the parish church of Kilchoman, 1455, and appears again in the same record in 1463 as Terneciohni (Pap. Lett., XI, p. 262,480). John Makarlich appears in Ayrshire in 1535 (RMS., III, 1536), and Donald McCarlycht was a 'fugitive fra the law' in 1538 (RSS., II, 2606). Tarlocht M'Ene V'Carlycht, a witness in 1573, appears again in the same year as Charles M'Ane V'Tarlych and as Therlycht M'Ain W'Therlycht (BBT,, p. 216,218, 220). Hector McCarliche in Innerbruoche and Auchinroy McCarliche in Lyne were fined for reset of members of Clan Gregor in 1613 (RPC., XIV, p. 630). Alester McKerlich in Keandamonie in 1618 appears in the same record as McKarlich, McTarlach, and McCarlach (RPC., XI, p. 372—373). Archibald M'Kerlich in Finlarg was a vassal of Campbell of Glenurquhay in 1638 (BBT., p. 402), and Alexander McHerlich appears in Blainabie, 1726 (HP., II, p—334). M'Harleyth (in Islay).
