MACGHITTICH: A corruption of MacShitich, 'son of the wolf,' for which See under Shaw. There was formerly a lawless family or sept of this name in Harris. "About 1664 they attacked the house of Macdonald of Keppoch, and murdered MacDonald himself. For this crime they were extirpated by Sir James MacDonald" (The Macleods of Dunvegan, p. 55).
